Replacing steep hillside grass with a ground cover

So I have a steep hillside that is grass. It has become too difficult and laborsome to maintain the hill. I am going to replace the area with a ground cover. It is impossible to run a sod cutter up/down or side to side to remove the sod.

How do you recommend transitioning from grass to ground cover?
