Removing old Bushes

We are renovating 14 beds at one of our accounts. We got 6 just about done. We cut off top of bushes with loppers then use a heavy sharp heavy shovel to cut side roots.Then with pry bar and a couple pieces of wood as fulcrum to pop em out. Is there a simpler way?

This was some type of cactus so we used chainsaw to cut root in half.

These are a little tougher.

Keep in mind these are small areas with steel edging and irrigation...
