Landscape fabric for french drain - clay soil

I'm looking to see what type of landscape fabric I should use for a french drain in clay soil. From what I understand, I shouldn't wrap/sock the pipe because it can get clogged, but I should put fabric on top of the crushed stone before loam is put on top.
