chain link fencing to bust up cores?

I bought a piece of 12 ga. chain link fencing that is 3'W x 7'L. I core aerated my lawn last weekend and want to bust up the cores using the piece of fencing. However, it's not working very well at all. Is it not heavy enough? The fence seems to glide over the grass and not grabbing the cores. I'm wondering if I should cut some of the links and point them down so that they'll grab cores.

Any ideas?

I aerated in advance of overseeding. At 2.75 acres my lawn is too big to slit seed...
