if a hedgerow line of bushes is curved,

and corners at the curved point at the start of a patio area, and you're supposed to 'trim the hedgerow back'. Would you follow the curve/angle that was already there, or cut it all at a straight line which would mean cutting pretty far back into the trees not in the patio section? Basically a shape line as below. The trees are not evergreen and thus you can safely cut quite deep into them but not too too much of course.
