Pampas Grass Trimming

I know pampas grass is supposed to be trimmed in late winter early spring.... I was just contacted by an HOA that has about 20 pampas grass bushes that are way over grown and they want them cut back. Would it hurt or kill that plant if you cut them back right now? We are seeing near 100 degree temps everyday in South GA.
