What’s the deal with these bushes?

The one bush is speckled with purple leaves, the other is nearly entirely purple on one side, but the bougainvillea are growing perfectly fine. I heard the purple is due to a phosphorus deficiency so I threw down some fertilizer. I wasn’t sure if it was that or just changing of the leaves during fall.
