Is Areating over hyped ?

I see everyone offering/ talking about aerating ? Is aerating over hyped ? I mean aerating is done naturally. Everyone has earth worms in their lawn. They dig holes and come out at night. Hundreds of small holes all over you lawn.

So, is aerating over hyped ?
